Minty Grapefruit Green Juice
I’m still juicing!
In fact, I’ve been enjoying my daily green juices SO much that I bought myself a handy dandy brand new Breville juicer!
…everyone else was getting them…
After doing my research… or just reading this great blog of juicing information, I went with the Breville Juice Fountain Plus JE98XL, ordered from Harvest Essentials. The company is great and the price was right. Can’t beat that combination.
Unless of course, it’s a combination of food…
I have to tell you, I am thrilled with my purchase. Not only is it WAY easier to clean, put together, and use overall, this juicer seems to be much more efficient. I get more juice from the same amount of ingredients than an older Cuisinart I was using.
Anyway, here’s my latest favorite juice:
Minty Grapefruit Green Juice
Serves one.
- 1 green apple
- 1/2 grapefruit, peel removed
- 1 cup kale leaves and stems
- mint (as much as you’d like- I used about 1/2 cup, if packed)
- 1/2 inch piece of fresh ginger
- 1/2 cucumber, peeled
Directions:
Chop, slice, and dice your ingredients to fit into your juicer and feed the juicer!
Sip and enjoy.
Even though I haven’t been blogging much, I’ve been going crazy in the kitchen. Baking, cooking, blending, mixing, juicing, smoothie-ing. I’ve been making some pretty interesting items, most of which are fabulously delicious. I’ve taken quite a few photos, too, so when I find some free time (not much of that around here anymore!) then I will make sure you get the recipes.
But for now, enjoy these breakfast smoothies I’ve been lovin’ on lately… Strawberry Kale Cardamom Smoothie. Mmmmmm! (Promise!)
This breakfast smoothie is wonderful. Crisp and light with the sweet tartness of strawberries, with a touch of added spice from the cinnamon and cardamom. The coconut water and meat really add a creaminess, but if you do not have access to fresh coconuts, try the avocado substitution- any healthy fat will do!
Strawberry Kale Cardamom Smoothie
Serves one to two.
- 1 cup frozen strawberries
- 1 cup kale
- 1/4 cup soft young coconut meat (or 1/4 ripe avocado)
- 1/4 tsp cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp cardamom
- 1 cup coconut water, or water
- 1-2 tsp honey or a few drops of Stevia
- *1 scoop vanilla or flavorless protein powder (I used Vega Sport Vanilla Protein Powder)
- ice cubes, to thicken
Directions:
Blend all ingredients together on high, about 50 seconds, or until all ingredients are broken down (no chunks of kale!). Taste and adjust sweetness, if needed.
Pour into two glasses and share… or drink both for yourself. 😉
Not only are my green juices and smoothies strangely amazing tasting, but they also fit right in alignment with my Insanity workouts (and loose following of the Insanity Diet Protocol..).
