At Peace

In October I ran my first marathon and trained for it with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS). It was one of the most humbling, terrific, difficult, and rewarding things I have ever done. Working with LLS and Team In Training (TNT), my Santa Cruz Chapter Team and I raised funds to help support patients and slow and stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. I personally raised $5,037.76 out of my $3,800 goal. And then, myself, along with thousands of others ran 26.2 miles in honor of all individuals who are, and were, battling blood cancers.

One inspirational woman, whom is (and has been) a huge role model for me in so many ways, one of the amazing founders of a raw food way of life, and one of the sweetest people I have ever had the pleasure of meeting, Elaina Love, also trained, raised money, and completed her first marathon during the same time I participated in TNT.  (Elaina, for those of you who do not know, is a professional Chef and Instructor, Lifestyle Counselor and Owner/Director of the raw food store and Pure Joy Planet, aside from having numerous cooks and recipe books for raw food.) Ms. Love decided to run her first marathon with TNT when her son was diagnosed with an aggressive form of leukemia. He had undergone traditional cancer treatment (chemotherapy, radiation, and bone marrow transplant) in 2009.

Sadly, Dominic passed away on Tuesday, January 5th, 2010. Cherie Soria, a friend of Elaina’s, and founder and director of Living Light Culinary Arts Institute and author, wrote this email,

Dear Friends,

It is with great sadness that we send this final announcement about Dominic, as posted today by his mother Elaina.

“Dominic Angelo left his earthly body today. He passed peacefully and with dignity. I shared his last conscious moments with him at 3am when he got up to get his backpack to tell me he was going on a trip. He hugged me and my sister and niece for a long while, then lay back down and never woke up again until the end to let go of his last breath at 3:23 PM January 5th.”

Memorial Service for Dominic Angelo is Thursday the 7th at 2pm at The George Mark Lane, San Leandro, CA 94578, 510-346-1290. All are welcome.

With great love and appreciation,

Cherie Soria, Dan Ladermann, and the entire Living Light family
