The Classic Americano

Nope, we’re not talking about the coffee drink. This Americano is smooth and rich, gentle and bitter, is caffeine free, and puts you in a delightfully calm mood.
And apparently it was the first cocktail mentioned in the James Bond novels and has stayed fancy ever since.
I even feel fancy sipping on this beautiful drink. Think pinkies up, tiny sips, fancy hats… or just your everyday athleisure wear.
The Americano is complex in flavor yet simple in making. Equal parts Bruto Americano and sweet vermouth, topped with soda water, and you’ve got yourself the perfectly refreshing drink.
Have you ever tied Bruto? Oooh boy, you’re in for a treat!
I prefer Bruto Americano for this cockatil as it’s more refined and balanced in bitterness (this is a good thing!) but feel free to use Campari if that’s what you have. I’ve made this many times with both and I tend to think the Bruto creates a far superior and complex drink.
For vermouth, Antica Formula is a fantastic choice of high quality sweet vermouth that will further develop the flavors of this drink.
I did not pair this one with food but I do think a few quality cheeses with crackers would go swimmingly well with the fancy Americano Cocktail.
OR try sipping this delicious cocktail with my Aperitivo Orange Olive Oil Cake. A cake made with Bruto Americano, rich olive oil, and orange zest, making this an incredibly flavorful, luscious, and mouth-watering cake. Promise.
Now it’s your turn to try out this classic, yet underrated, drink.
And remember, this one is best shaken, not stirred stirred, not shaken.
